Breast augmentation is done with the help of implants. Breast implant s are medical products intended for installation under the mammary gland or pectoral muscle to change the size and shape of the breast. The characteristic of any breast implant includes the following basic criteria: volume, shape, shell, and filler. Modern plastic surgery works with two types of implants:
- Silicone implants
- Saline implants
Both consist of a silicone shell and filler. In the first case, the filler is a silicone gel and in the second, it is a physiological solution with a 0.9% salt content. Silicone breast implants not only provide the necessary degree of elasticity but also retains its shape even in the case of rupture of the outer shell. Saline implants are much softer and often have the effect of “gurgling” (the liquid inside the implant produces characteristic sounds).
are produced in the round and drop-shaped (anatomical) form. The drop-shaped implant is the most approximate to the natural form of the female breast and therefore is much more urgent and expensive. However, in some cases, the optimal result is obtained with the use of round implants. It depends on the individual features of the structure of the mammary glands. So, anatomical implants are used more often to increase the flat chest. To increase and/or improve the shape of the breasts, round implants are used.
The shell of the breast implants can be smooth or textured. The size of breast implants is calculated based on the volume of the implant filler (in milliliters). Approximately 150 ml of silicone or saline filler corresponds to one breast size. Thus, an implant of 300 ml corresponds to a “second” size.
